Lyle Ralph Hickman #8:

Lyle Hikcman #8 was born on Easter Sunday, April 18,1909 at the farm-home of his parents, George Bert #6 and Coral E. Payne Hickman #7 which was in the Clifton, Colorado area, 6 miles east of Grand Junction, Colorado.

Just one day before his first birthday, March 17, 1910 the Hickman family left Colorado for a new home in Oregon.   His father leased a farm 8 miles South of Klamath Falls, Oregon and 4 miles East of Midland, Oregon, which was referred to as "the Colonel Allison Place."

His father died when he was about two years old.

In 1913 his mother married James Ward Dolan #84, who operated what was known as "the Thomas Martin Spring Lake Ranch".    Lyle lived with his mother and stepfather throughout his school years.    Ward purchased the ranch on Spring Lake Road, adjoining the Martin ranch in 1918 and the family lived there.    Ward and Coral had three daughters; Loraine #85, Rosemarie #86 and Betty #87 (1926).    Lyle attended Spring Lake School and Klamath Union High School.  As of 1931 he was employed at the Ewauna Box Factory.

On January 27, 1931 he married Anna Lucille Burnett #9.

By 1938 the family lived in Willow Ranch, California and he was in the lumber business in Lake County Oregon and California.    His son, James Lyle #28 was born and Lyle became associated with the Big Lakes Lumber Co.

In about 1941 he moved to the Midland area of Oregon, close to Klamath Falls and worked the farm formerly farmed by his father-in-law, James B. Burnett #10 until 1948.    During this time his daughter, Carol #29 was born in 1945.    He then managed the dry kilns at a lumber mill in Klamath Falls until 1955.    During this time his son Craig #30 was born in 1948.

In 1955 the family moved to Portland, Oregon where he was employed by the Western Pine Association (later known as Western Wood Products) as a Lumber Seasoning Technologist at the research laboratory in the Portland Sellwood District.    In 1964 this laboratory was closed and he moved to the central office in Portland where he directed Lumber Seasoning Service until his retirement in 1973.    At that time he worked as a private contractor to provide dry kiln services to western millmen.

He was active in the Grange, being Master and Pomona Master.    He was also a Mason.
