On Sundays no one was allowed to work , as it was the Lord's day. They all went to the Methodest Church in the morning and in the afternoon the girls played insturments and sang songs.
In 1901 President McKinley died. Jim, his brothers Andy and Stewart, his sister Bell and his mother and father all stood and watched McKinley's funeral train pass by on its way to Washington D. C. and later to Ohio.

He graduated from Columbia College, Hagerstown, Washington Co., MD in 1907.
He married Veda Pearl Rowe, 08/04/1911 at Hagerstown, MD. At that time he was from Martinsburg, WV and she was from Shepherdstown WV.
He was a member of the Mt. Nebo lodge No. 91 A.F. and A.M. of Shepherdstown, West Virginia. He had lived in Klamath County for 22 years. He was active in grange work, having been Master of the Midland grange for three terms.
He died of a heart attack on a Wednesday on top of a hay stack at the Whipple Ranch, Midland section. He had just finished his midday meal. He had been subject to fainting spells for some time. The funeral was held under the auspices of the Klamath Lodge 77, AF and AM.
